Our story begins in a family kitchen long before our doors ever opened in Bourbonnais.

 

Josephine was the grandmother who first taught our owner, Gina, how to bake. She believed that recipes were more than measurements — they were memories in the making. Flour on the counter meant love was being shared. A cake wasn’t just dessert — it was part of the celebration.

 

In the early 1990s, Gina unexpectedly found herself learning cake decorating “on the fly” while working at a local grocery store bakery during graduation season. What began as stepping in to help quickly became a calling. She fell in love with the art, the creativity, and the joy that beautifully crafted desserts could bring to families during life’s biggest moments.

 

For years, Gina became the go-to for birthdays, weddings, showers, and celebrations of all kinds — each cake made with the same care and intention Josephine once modeled in her kitchen.

 

Her son, Dylan, grew up surrounded by that creativity. With a passion for business and years spent developing quick-service restaurants in California, he saw an opportunity to bring those family recipes to the community in a bigger way. What started as a simple Instagram page sharing Gina’s creations quickly outgrew the home kitchen.

 

So they took the leap.

 

Today, Josephine’s Bakeshop is a mother-and-son owned bakery located at 1230 N Convent St in Bourbonnais, IL. What began as two people with a shared vision has grown into a team of talented bakers, decorators, and friendly faces who believe that every customer should feel like family.
